Gamification, specifically transmedia provides a single experience that incorporates multiple forms of media to create opportunities for both interactive learning and communication (Warren, Wakefield & Mills, 2012). Flatland is an effort to create learning activities that include technology as part of the instructional design process. Technologies to be included are social networking, digital media, mobile computing and augmented reality to create a mashup that is engaging and motivating for students. Each student will have a unique learning experience as part of the Flatland distributed narrative that incorporates multiple sources using information stored in Canvas. The experience should create a more complex mental representation (Rosen, 2011) for student motivated by the stories and contexts. This session on  Flatland incorporates reading material, journals, educational videos, online Kahn Academy assignments, Facebook with characters in the story, VoiceThread collaborations, and discussions integrated into the course.
